Desiccated Coconut / Nariyal Burada (ناریل کا برادہ)
Nariyal Burada is finely shredded dried coconut used to add coconut flavour, texture and a decorative finish to food. Common names include Desiccated Coconut, Shredded Coconut, Coconut Powder, Nariyal Chura, Narial Burada and Khopra Powder. Coconut comes from Cocos nucifera L.
Uses in sweets and baking
- Sprinkle over kheer, firni, custard, cakes and other desserts.
- Mix into coconut ladoo, nariyal barfi and sweet fillings.
- Add to biscuits, macaroons and cake mixtures where the recipe calls for shredded coconut.
- Use as a coating for homemade sweet balls or as a finishing garnish.
How to use
Use the amount specified in your recipe. Sprinkle directly onto a finished dessert for texture, or combine with other ingredients during preparation. For toasted coconut flavour, heat a small quantity gently in a dry pan, stirring continuously, and remove when lightly golden. Fine shreds brown quickly.
