Description
Fennel Root / Jar Sonf (جڑ سونف)
Jar Sonf is the dried root of fennel, Foeniculum vulgare Mill. It is also known as Jar Saunf, Jarr Sonf, Bekh Badiyan, Beikh-e-Badiyan and Beekh Sonf (بیخ سونف / بیخ بادیان). Supplied as dried root pieces for traditional herbal preparations.
Fennel root and fennel seeds
This product is the dried root, not the familiar fennel seeds used in cooking or the fresh fennel bulb sold as a vegetable. Different plant parts have different uses: do not substitute root for seeds in a recipe or apply seed dosages to the root.
Traditional herbal uses
Fennel root is an ingredient in some Unani formulations, including Sharbat-e-Bazoori Motadil. The traditional use of that multi-ingredient preparation includes urinary and kidney concerns. A published study identifies Beikh Badiyan as Foeniculum vulgare root in the formulation. This listing supplies the raw ingredient for practitioner-guided preparation.
What the research shows
Research on a sugar-free Sharbat-e-Bazoori Motadil formulation used laboratory cells and rats. It investigated the complete mixture, not fennel root alone. It therefore does not prove that this root treats kidney disease, removes stones or relieves urinary infections in people.
How to use
For a prescribed decoction or formula, measure the amount specified by your qualified practitioner, rinse the root pieces and follow the prescribed preparation method. Root pieces can be broken or coarsely crushed when the formula requires it. There is no universal medicinal dose established here; preparation, quantity and duration depend on the prescription. Contact us before ordering if you need a custom preparation.
Precautions
Seek professional advice before medicinal use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for children, with regular medicines or with kidney disease. Avoid use if you have a known fennel allergy. Persistent urinary burning, fever or blood in the urine needs medical assessment.
